Aims: to enable you to plan and carry out longer assignments, which require significant preparation and/or advanced data analysis. To effect a transition from the routine experiments and skills encountered in the second year to the comprehensive project work undertaken in the fourth year. To introduce you to some of the research activities within the Department and to the methods of working of the research groups.

By the end of the course you should be able to show your ability to plan, execute and report on a substantial assignment within a four week period. You should be able to give a clear and concise oral presentation on the last assignement. You should be aware of the activities of at least one of the research groups and the teamwork involved in its activities.
