20-21 MU2333: Intercultural Performance: Theory and Practice

In response to the cultural diversity of performing arts today, this course aims to enhance students' capacity for thinking about and performing music outside mainstream categories of 'classical', 'world', 'pop', and others. We will examine practical and conceptual frameworks for interculturalism in the performing arts, establishing critical and context sensitive perspectives on selected musical genres, and aim to develop a range of innovative, creative and collaborative musical skills that cross genres and cultural boundaries.
