20-21 GL5301: Structural Analysis

This course investigates advanced structural geology and geomechanics concepts of upper crustal deformation processes including fracturing, faulting and folding processes in a wide variety of tectonic setting relevant for resource assessment of sedimentary basins ranging from hydrocarbons, minerals, water and subsurface carbon & energy storage. These concepts will be applied in for mechanical stress analysis of subsurface data and seismic and structural interpretation exercises of a broad range of examples of sedimentary basins around the world. The course includes a fieldtrip looking at fault, fold structures and fracture systems in Somerset as part of the South West of England Trip in T2.
